Morning, all! Well, it’s morning if you’re an insomniac who lives on the west coast and gets to set her own schedule. In my world, afternoon starts somewhere around 4pm. Just go with it.
First, an update. The book is almost done. I feel like I’ve been saying that forever, but it’s TRUE. On Friday, it goes off to the betas. Every author works with betas in different ways. Some send their work out for feedback after each chapter, or maybe each draft. Hey, whatever works. I’m the sort of author who never shares what I’m working on until the very end, after it’s fully written and as good as I know how to get it. I prefer for the beta readers not to get distracted by things I plan to fix later, because I need them to focus on things I may not even know are broken. Even so, by sending off a draft that’s so close to final, I’ve never had any major post-beta revisions. Tweak a few points, fill a few plot holes, strengthen a weak scene, that sort of thing. It’s never taken more than a week to make those edits, and I’m hopeful that trend will continue with this one.
So, when I say I’m almost done, I mean I’m ALMOST DONE, betas willing. Don’t ask when it’s going to be published, because I really don’t know. The various publishing gods would be better suited to answering that question.
Next week, I return to the world of the Elements. I’m working on “When Aidan Met Sera,” a short story to say thank you to my readers. I’m also doing something crazy this time and actually creating an outline (up till now, I’ve been a dedicated pantser), and I’ll jump into writing Turning Tides by the end of this month. There will also be a few alternate POV scenes coming your way as I have time to fit them in.
Finally, I received an awesome surprise this month when the amazing Book Chick City picked Broken Elements as their August Book of the Month! This is my first time ever being a book of the month, and I’m so pleased to break that particular cherry on such a great site. Thanks, BCC!
