It’s been a somewhat quiet week, at least compared to the last couple of mad editing months. LOST CAUSES is in final copy edits, so other than a few final corrections and proofs, it’s really really done, freeing up a *lot* of brain space.
Except the brain was quite tired, so I mainly worked on several ongoing projects you’ll be hearing about next week. I also started to organize the book launch. Since I’ll be spending most of September on my couch and high on painkillers, I figured it was better to make plans now. Then I watched season 4 of Friday Night Lights on Netflix. All of season 4. These things are important.
I also squeezed in a couple of great reads, of course.
Sex Criminals Vol. 2 by Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky. A graphic novel with the most preposterous setup imaginable: people who can stop time when they orgasm, so of course they have sex and commit crimes. The first volume was fun, but this one moved beyond “orgasms and bank robberies, yay!” and explored the intersection between being an individual and being part of a couple.
Lady Be Good by Meredith Duran. I have no idea why every historical romance reader doesn’t read and love Meredith Duran (though I was happy to see her included on NPR’s list of 100 Swoon-Worthy Romances. She’s fabulous, and I have yet to be disappointed in any of her books (though The Duke of Shadows may still be my favorite).
Two Dots reminds me a bit of Candy Crush in its gameplay, but they took out all the cloying, ringing, OH MY GOD TURN IT OFF stuff I hated in that game. The graphics are clean and adorable, and because you only get a new life every 20 minutes, it hasn’t taken over all my waking hours yet. I may have enough time left to write.
Right after I finish level 67.
